• In Lucas County, 75% of the 20 fastest-growing occupations through 2010 require a minimum bachelor’s degree with a math/science background.
• 41% of Ohio high school graduates are placed in remedial courses in college.
• The majority of students requiring remediation in college do not major in STEMM subjects.
• 19.2% of mathematics and 18.9 % of science teachers in major urban areas are not considered to be highly qualified.
• 30% of the science and mathematics teachers who take positions at urban schools choose to leave within the first three years.
• Urban districts score consistently below the State average on the Ohio Achievement Test in mathematics and science by 20% or more.
